"Complements of the day"
Someone actually sent me a message on myspace with this as the subject line. I'm guessing he meant "compliments." Now, the question is if I should tell him or just ignore.

Re: Complements of the day
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 8:15 AMHow well do you know the person? Also, do you think this was a confusion of words (a grammatical mistakes) or of fingers on the keyboard (a typing mistake)? -

Fri, August 7, 2009 - 12:37 PMI would ignore. Even the smartest folk I know misspell or typo. The worst offender is definitely that eveyone seems to spell definAtely. AAACCKKKK!!!!!!!!! -

Re: Complements of the day
Sat, August 8, 2009 - 8:40 AMI believe the worst offender is separate. I always see it as seperate. Drives me up a wall.
But it could be just a matter of what we notice and where we are. I think my issue with separate started with a company where I worked and the person who typed all of the memos always spelled it incorrectly. This in turn heightened my sensitivity to the issue, so I probably notice it more often.

Thu, August 13, 2009 - 7:13 PMI think if you put your ear to their enunciation of definitely you may definAtely hear the source of their spelling or typo.

Re: Complements of the day
Sat, August 8, 2009 - 9:28 AMMy peeve is apparently. My sixth graders write apparantly a lot. ...As in "Apparantly Alfred had never seen his mother before even though he was 12 years old and lived with her all his life." ARG!!!
They don't start Latin til seventh, and that English teacher says a lot of those kinds of mistakes go away over the course of the year. -

Re: Complements of the day
Thu, August 13, 2009 - 7:34 PMYes and modern american language comes partiallyfrom englush spellin's, grammar, pronunciation and from that old franch, old Anglish and others' tongues who done didn't know how to speak and spell modern american language.
The problem for the young student is getting that "t" enunciated clearly and the e sound vs a sound ... i have been told that the t sound requires about 45,000 muscle groups to say I don't know vs. I dunno... hee heee
tan cotton candy (smile) clean cold comb (kiss) --- english is a smile and kiss language.
Lester likes lemons lovelier, while Peter prefers peppers peeled.
apparently is Peter smile and apparantly is Lester kiss
